SALT LAKE CITY — Car insurance could cost Utah drivers more money if tariffs stick around. A new projection by Insurify indicates premiums could go up by 7% by the end of the year.

According to Certified Financial Planner Gerika Espinosa, the increased insurance rates come from the growing cost of repairing cars.

“25%, 50% of a tax when we import parts of our vehicles, whether full vehicles or cars, and so that increases the cost to repair them.”

Previously, premiums had only grown by 3% to 5% due to inflation, Espinosa said.

However, Utahns could soon be paying around $2,000 a year in car insurance because of tariffs, even though premiums in the state are lower than the national average.
