CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - It’s been a quick turnaround for girls tennis teams across the state. Three months ago, their season ended, but now they’re already back on the court. That’s because the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) decided to flip the seasons, with tennis now taking place in the fall.
“That’s one of the pros that we looked as a team was like hey see you in two months,” Cedar Rapids Washington girls tennis head coach Sam Koeppl said.
After starting 0-3 last season, the Wash girls tennis team won 11 out of their last 13 matches. In a way it feels like they are picking up right where they left off.
“It gives us less time in between. I definitely think we’re all warmed up and we’ve been playing the whole summer,” senior Lily Belle Barker said.
