An extended, shrill burst from head coach Vin Mistretta’s whistle Monday ended the first official practice of 2025 New Jersey high school football season, almost precisely at the three-hour mark for the Jackson Township football team.

Wearing shorts in as many colors as a box of crayons but unified in red helmets, the 100 players unbuckled chin straps revealing sweat-drenched, helmet-head hairdos on the crabgrass of what was once known as the Jackson Liberty campus.
