Today in History revisits the XXX edition of the Grand Forks Herald and highlights a story on Kathy Stabo from Milton, N.D. who was crowned "Miss Durum."
In 1971, Kathy Stabo of Milton, N.D., crowned “Miss Durum,” promoted the state’s famed durum wheat while preparing to cheer for NDSU’s Bison. Daughter of Charles and Fern Stabo, she lived in a historic 1912 farmhouse once owned by C.W. Plain, rich with local history and artifacts. The Stabos modernized the home while preserving its vintage charm. On their farm, they raised grains and cattle, maintaining ties to the region’s pioneer heritage and reflecting on changes from the steam age to modern electrification.
