An attempted slow-speed getaway Sunday night involving a stolen power wheelchair ended with a man's arrest.

Electronic court records indicate that Alonzo Perez, 45, of Roswell, and a woman who was with him were detained by police after they allegedly stole a Hoveround, a high-powered wheelchair, and attempted to flee on it.

Perez was subsequently arrested and charged with one felony count of larceny over $2,500 but less than $20,000 and one misdemeanor count of resisting, evading or obstructing an officer. The woman who was sitting on Perez's lap had not been charged with any offense as of Monday, according to court records.
