From cash to cars: How UK parents celebrate their children's exam success

A survey of 1,500 parents with children aged 16-18 revealed that cash presents remain the favoured method for celebrating their youngsters' academic achievements.

Additional parents plan to purchase clothing, mobile phones, footwear and jewellery for their offspring. Laptops, music festival passes and even holidays also feature amongst the 30 most popular post-results rewards.

However, whilst the typical parent will spend £467 on their child, this figure climbs to £902 in London, £783 in Northern Ireland, and £630 in the West Midlands.

Parents in Northern Ireland are most inclined to purchase a new laptop for their youngster, whereas those in Wales favour experiences such as exhibition tickets or contributions to
