St. Joseph County Road Commission board member Jack Coleman resigned from his position in mid-July because he didn’t agree with the commission’s combined position on an employee disciplinary matter.
Coleman said the disciplinary situation could have “been handled better” if the entire commission had more information. He declined to provide details of the human resources related matter, except to say that it involved an employee who might have been a multiple time offender, although the issue was not of a “severe or criminal” nature.
“A member of the commission’s management team apparently lost their temper,” Coleman said. He added the commission human resources director at the time was aware of the situation and that the commission’s “chair and vice chair had knowledge” of the incident.
