NORTH STONINGTON — Wheeler has produced its share of outstanding female athletes in its history, notably soccer All-America and Division I player Bryant Karpinski (Class of ‘2000), Division I college basketball player Keyokah Mars-Garrick (‘07) and Division I college softball player Raven Houck (‘16)

But none can match the uniqueness if not the magnitude of achievement of ‘25 graduate Sophia Gouveia.

The 5-foot-9 Gouveia earned Eastern Connecticut Conference Player of the Year and Class S All-State first-team honors in girls lacrosse for the second straight year, finshing her career with 310 goals.

Scoring goals was a way of life for Gouveia, who is headed to play lacrosse at Division I Stonehill in Easton, Mass.

Gouveia was a second-team All-State pick for the Woodstock Academy co-op
