The Perseid meteor shower peaks tonight, Tuesday, August 12, into the following morning.

The usual advice to maximize meteors in the hours before sunrise is as the Earth turns into the stream of dust of rocks left behind by the parent comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle.

But not this year.

The best time to view the 2025 Perseid meteor shower will be within a few hours beginning with civil twilight Tuesday evening around 8 p.m. Meteors will be increasingly difficult to see as the moon rises around 9:30 p.m.

This is also when the chance of rain is at its lowest and a break in the clouds is highest.
