DULUTH — For over a decade, a group of at least nine Twin Ports-based poets has been meeting each month to work on poetry.
The First Thursday Poets started as a poetry workshop under the direction of former Duluth Poet Laureate Sheila Packa in 2014.
"Sheila gave us writing prompts, one right after another, after another," said poet Meridel Kahl. "We'd write for 10 minutes, quickly share, then write for another 10. The workshop ended, but we all decided we wanted to keep on meeting, so the group was grown out of that."
The group decided to meet on the first Thursday of every month at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Duluth, and thus, the First Thursday Poetry Group came to be.
Eventually, the group moved away from offering prompts and moved instead into a critique format.
