Ex-Premier League referee David Coote has been given an eight-week ban over comments he made about former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, the Football Association (FA) has announced.

The governing body said an independent Regulatory Commission had imposed the suspension and a mandatory face-to-face education programme on Mr Coote for a breach of FA rules.

Coote previously admitted that he used abusive or insulting words about Klopp in a video that was recorded around July 2020 and appeared on social media in November 2024.

It was also alleged that his actions constituted an "aggravated breach" as they included a reference - whether express or implied - to the German manager's nationality.
