The cause of the meteor shower is due to the earth passing through bits of debris from the comet, Swift-Tuttle. If you look toward the northeast sky, meteors appear to fall from the constellation Perseus, hence its namesake. Advertisement
The shower usually begins in mid-July and ends in late August.
According to NASA, the shower begins July 17 and lasts until Aug. 23.
While it occurs over the course of nearly two months, it's set to peak the night of Aug. 12 into the dawn hours of Aug. 13. Peak is just for a night, but you can still catch a glimpse of those glittering meteors for a few days on either side of that timeframe. The best way to view this shower is to find an area with littl
