A day after forming in the Atlantic Ocean, Tropical Storm Erin is expected to soon begin strengthening and become first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season by Thursday, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Tuesday morning.
Erin was 690 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands and had maximum winds of 45 mph at 4:00 a.m. The tropical storm is moving west at 22 mph, said NHC forecaster Richard Pasch.
Erin is expected to become a major hurricane of Category 3 strength by Saturday While Pasch said intensity predictions are on the high end, there's still uncertainty on how strong the storm will become.
