A schoolgirl has been left with horror burns after a boiling hot metal teapot fell onto her lap at a Home Bargains café.

Murphy Weatherston, six, was enjoying a day out with her family when the incident occurred, which ultimately left her with burns on seven per cent of her body.

The tragedy unfolded when the child attempted to take a sachet of sauce from her grandmother's tray at the Home Bargains café in Cumbernauld Westway Retail Park on July 22.

Murphy accidentally knocked over the scalding pot of tea while in search for the packet, with the metal vessel falling onto its side, and bouncing off the little girl's arm before falling directly into her lap.
