Dashcam footage released by police shows lightning strike along busy South Carolina road, sparking a power line explosion and catching motorists off guard.
The incident took place on Monday, Aug. 11 in Mount Pleasant, a seaside town outside of Charleston.
"A bit too much excitement for a Monday," Mount Pleasant Police Department posted on X. "The lightning strike caused our power outages and traffic delays."
Footage shows the moment the bolt struck, causing a transformer to burst and utility lines on the other side of the highway to blow up.

Just before 11 a.m., the bolt struck at the intersection of Highway 17 and Shelmore Boulevard, bringing down wires across the roadway and causing "widespread power outages," police wrote.
No injuries were reported, according to police.
Crews restore power after lightning strike
More than a dozen officers and local sheriff's deputies managed traffic at seven intersections for about three hours until the scene was cleared, police reported.
According to police, Dominion Energy responded to the scene, removed the downed wires and restored power to the area.
The National Weather Service in Charleston had previously forecast thunderstorms on Monday.
