Dozens of vehicles have been seized from rogue drivers who racked up more than 300 speeding and red-light offences between them. According to police, one such motorist had amassed 45 penalty points on their licence during the crackdown on dangerous drivers .

Leicestershire Police revealed the finds as part of Operation Hopper - an initiative which has been running since the start of May and targets those who pose serious risks on the roads. In all, 39 vehicles have been seized, with officers saying none of these had any valid motoring insurance.

Officers said Operation Hopper has highlighted a "hardcore minority of wilful drivers", with cases including a driver whose licence had been medically revoked . The seizures were the result of intelligence provided by the Road Safety Unit
