This past weekend, the Coharie Tribe celebrated the start of their new mural with a community day.

The event was held at the Coharie Tribal Center in Clinton and was open to the public. The tribe allowed people to come watch the mural be painted and even allowed some children of the tribe to help the mural’s artist Taylor White create the masterpiece. The new mural spans the side of the tribal center’s gymnasium and according to the artist is among the biggest pieces she’s ever created.

“I think the biggest one technically might have been a parking garage in Morrisville, but I think in terms of square feet this is the biggest,” said White.

While the majority of the mural has yet to be painted, a stencil was created to provide a glimpse at what the mural will look like once it is complet
