ACADIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A special mass was held at St. Edward's Catholic Church to honor Charlene Richard, known as the "Little Cajun Saint, on the 66th anniversary of her death.
Charlene Richard died from acute lymphatic leukemia at the age of 12, and her life and legacy continue to inspire many. The Vatican has accepted an investigation into her life, which could lead to her canonization as a saint.
"Everybody here is praying that one day soon she'll be named saint," said Nanette Reiners, president of the Charlene Richard Foundation.
Charlene Richard is remembered for her faith and the way she offered her suffering for others, which has led to numerous testimonies of miracles attributed to her intercession. Reiners explained the canonization process.
