Lower Michigan has heat and humidity on tap this afternoon and evening, coupled with a wind shift called a cold front. The combination of the two weather features should allow scattered severe thunderstorms to develop.

The Storm Prediction Center went with a large area of Michigan in the lowest level of severe thunderstorm risk. This generally means any severe thunderstorms will be isolated and on the lower end of severe.

A quick severe thunderstorm is possible anywhere in Lower Michigan and the eastern two-thirds of the Upper Peninsula.

There is a five to 14 percent chance of severe wind gusts in any thunderstorm. A severe gust is officially defined as a wind gust of 58 mph or faster.
