Firefighters rushed to the scene of a 'explosive' bin lorry fire on Newmarket Road, Cambridge , on Tuesday (August 12), which caused disruption to Cambridge Airport. Footage from the scene from @RithuTheExplorer shows plumes of smoke billowing from a pile of rubbish, which had been removed from the bin lorry.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and possibly caused by an explosive item such as a gas canister, or crushed batteries placed incorrectly in the bin. Cambridge City Council stated in a release: "On discovering the fire, the crew of the Greater Cambridge Shared Waste Service recycling lorry followed its usual safety procedures and was able to safely empty the material on Airport Way.
