WestJet customers faced significant flight delays on Tuesday due to a technical issue affecting operations at several Canadian airports, including Toronto's Pearson Airport. The airline confirmed that a system outage caused disruptions to both arriving and departing flights.

Toronto Pearson Airport alerted travelers via social media, advising them to check their flight status before heading to the airport. The airport's post emphasized the widespread nature of the delays, which were also reported at Ottawa International Airport, Calgary International Airport, and airports in Saskatoon and Montreal.

In a statement, WestJet explained, "This morning, WestJet experienced a temporary system outage that delayed the handover of aircraft from maintenance personnel for scheduled operation." The airline added that it was working quickly to resolve the issue and return to normal operations.

Despite the resolution of the technical problems, many flights continued to experience delays of several hours. The Canadian Airports Council noted that multiple airports were affected, stating, "Several Canadian airports are currently experiencing disruptions due to a technical issue affecting @WestJet."

Travelers expressed frustration on social media as they dealt with the delays, particularly at airports in Calgary and Halifax.

By mid-morning, Pearson Airport updated customers, confirming that the outage had been resolved but still urged passengers to verify their flight statuses.

In a separate announcement, WestJet disclosed that personal data, including travelers' documents, was stolen in a cyberattack earlier this year. However, the airline clarified that no credit or debit card information was compromised in the incident.
