Eugene is home to the World's Ugliest Dog .

Petunia, a hairless French bulldog, received her crown on Aug. 8 during the annual competition at the Sonoma County Fair, north of San Francisco.

The annual contest, which judges canines on their extracurricular activities and not-so-cute appearances, helps pet shelters find animals forever homes . According to its website, the contest has taken place for nearly five decades and many of the contestants "have been rescued from shelters and puppy mills, to find loving homes in the hands of those willing to adopt."

The 1.5-year-old pooch hails from Luvable Dog Rescue , a private nonprofit that operates on 55 acres of land outside of Eugene, according to the rescue's website.
