TRAVELERS beware.
A popular scam is hitting airports that can leave personal information at risk.
A Reddit user claiming to be a Delta baggage claims manager is warning flyers to start ripping off their baggage tags at home after they have seen a spike in fraud .
The poster says that scammers can use the discarded tags--usually thrown away in the airport next to baggage claim-- to make false claims to airlines.
"[I]t is causing issue with reimbursing the real people if they submit a legitimate claim," the user wrote on the r/delta subreddit.
"So please be careful and don’t take your tags off at the airport."
When they collect the tags, they can figure out the name, flight information, and confirmation numbers, according to the original poster.
