TAMPA, Fla. - The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Erin has formed just west of the Cabo Verde Islands.
Tropical Storm Erin forms in eastern Atlantic
As of 5 p.m., Erin was located about 280 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands with maximum sustained winds near 45 mph and higher gusts, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The storm is moving west at 21 mph and is expected to maintain that general track for several days.

According to FOX 13 meteorologist Dave Osterberg, some initial models indicate that the system will take a northern turn in the Atlantic, but that’s something to wait and watch.
