One of the top high school football rivalries in northwest Ohio is returning with the resumption of the cross-river battle between Perrysburg and Maumee.

The former longtime Northern Lakes League rivals had played every year for the Ding-Dong Bell from 1960 to 2022. However, a growing disparity in enrollment led to a lopsided edge in the series for Division I Perrysburg. The rivalry was halted after 103 seasons in 2022.

But beginning in 2027, the schools will meet once again.

Officials from both schools confirmed that the rivalry will resume on an annual basis.

The game will be the season opener for both teams every season. Perrysburg will host Maumee in the home opener at Steinecker Stadium in 2027. The Panthers will then host the Yellow Jackets in the first game of the 2028 season at
