DEARBORN, Michigan — It’s a road trip more typical of other professional team sports.

The Miami Heat, Florida Panthers or Miami Marlins may go on a West Coast swing for a week and a half, but NFL teams are often into a city one day and out the next night after playing the game.

So it’s a rare chance for the Miami Dolphins to experience a different level of team bonding this preseason as they spend 11 days in the Midwest, pivoting to the greater Detroit area this week after spending much of the previous week in and around Chicago .
