LAKE CITY — Lake City officials have shut down the city’s entire water system following a major water main break on Tuesday afternoon.
According to City Clerk Robyn Niles, the break occurred in the Houghton Street area and staff are working to address the situation.
“We had a major water main break, and we could not get the water to shut off, so we had to shut the entire city down until further notice,” Niles said. “We have no idea whatsoever how long the shutdown potentially might be.
“The main break happened in the Houghton Street area. As soon as the water system comes back up, we’ll be notifying all the news channels again and the radio stations and the papers. Until then, a boil water advisory will be put into effect.”
Residents are encouraged to follow the city’s active boil wate
