JORDAN Love is set to undergo surgery on his hand today to repair it ahead of the NFL season.

Love was forced to miss Green Bay Packers practice after injuring his hand in the team's first preseason play.

Love will undergo a procedure on his left thumb to repair a damaged ligament.

He isn't expected to miss any time in the regular season, and should return to practice within a week.

The injury was sustained when Love attempted to escape the pocket on a third-down play.

While he was running away, his hand hit defensive tackle Jay Tufele's helmet and the play ended in a sack.

Love exited the game after he was taken down.

"Yeah, that last play where he split two guys," Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said.

"I think a helmet just got it."
