CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island State Police are investigating after an inmate died Saturday morning at the ACI's Intake Service Center.
According to the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, staff responded to a request for medical attention and began performing life-saving measures until first responders arrived.
Their efforts were unsuccessful and the person died. His name has not been released.
The Medical Examiner's Office is now working to determine an official cause of death.
The Intake Service Center is a maximum security facility that can house up to 1,148 male offenders, from detainees awaiting trial to newly sentenced inmates waiting to be moved to other facilities.
