Former New Orleans area baseball star Johnny Giavotella is returning to UNO after being named the baseball program’s first general manager.

Giavotella played seven seasons in MLB and was apart of UNO’s coaching staff in 2019. The former big leaguer joins first-year head coach Andrew Gipson at UNO and will be tasked with planning the university’s recently announced Youth Recreation Partnership according to a press release.

A first team All-American who recorded a .363 career batting average while at UNO, Giavotella posted, “can’t be more excited to make this program a national force again” on X, formerly known as Twitter.
