The annual Perseid meteor shower will peak overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

People in the Northern Hemisphere will be able to see the meteor shower, but it is most visible just before dawn, according to the American Meteor Society .

The annual event is caused by the 109P/Swift-Tuttle comet, which orbits the sun every 133 days, according to NASA . Debris from the comet gets left behind, which the Earth orbits through every year.

It is recommended to view the peak of the meteor shower in a dark area between midnight and dawn, with best viewing from 2 to 3 a.m. local time, according to NASA .
