BREWER -- Fire officials are warning Mainers to take extra precautions with outdoor burning and other fire-related activities as the risk of wildfire danger has increased for much of the state.

The entire state of Maine was listed under a high fire risk Tuesday as hot and dry weather conditions persist.

According to the Maine Forest Service, online burn permits are only valid on low or moderate fire danger days for brush piles, wood debris and agricultural burns.

Deputy Chief Erik Tourtillotte with the Brewer Fire Department says they are encouraging people to take extra precautions for any open burning.

"We certainly want to express to people to exercise extreme care and caution, if they don't have to burn, maybe wait until conditions are a little more suitable for open burning," s
