Thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and heavy rain are expected to move into southeast Michigan on Tuesday, Aug. 12, evening, the National Weather Service said.
Storms from western lower Michigan are forecast to reach metro Detroit by 10-11 p.m., said Megan Varcie, a meteorologist with the service’s White Lake office. The storms could cause localized flooding, though widespread flooding is not expected.
A tornado warning was in effect earlier Tuesday evening for the Midland area after radar indicated strong rotation, Varcie said. No tornadoes have been confirmed. The warning ended at 6:15 p.m. Midland officials reported widespread street flooding and urged residents to avoid travel and not drive through deep water.
