Toni Atkins is a familiar face in San Diego and Sacramento politics. Now, she is hoping to make a name for herself in the rest of the state, as she campaigns for governor.
At the launch of her campaign office over the weekend, some of San Diego's political power players, including Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA 50), Mayor Todd Gloria and County Supervisor Paloma Aguirre, expressed their support for the gubernatorial candidate.
With an already crowded Democratic field — and no clear frontrunner — Atkins hopes an early start gives her an edge, and her reputation speaks for itself.
“We are going to stand up when, when their rights are being attacked, when their benefits are being taken, when, again, when cruelty is turned into policy,” Atkins told NBC 7.
