The true freshman is angling for a big role with the Buffaloes, however.
Gibson, who was the MaxPreps national high school player of the year in 2024, is already making some noise in preseason camp and could find himself returning punts or kickoffs when the Buffs open the season Aug. 29 against Georgia Tech (6 p.m., ESPN).
“From the return standpoint, we’ve got little Q coming,” CU special teams coordinator Michael Pollock said.
At North Crowley (Texas) High School last year, Gibson busted loose with 2,009 yards and 36 touchdowns as a receiver. He also threw a touchdown pass, ran for two scores and returned a punt for a score in helping his team go 16-0 and win the 6A state title.
