CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Nearly nine years after a tragic school bus crash that killed six elementary school children, the man convicted in the case has been released from prison and is now registered as a sex offender, according to NBC affiliate Local 3 news in Chattanooga.
Johnthony Walker, the former bus driver at the center of the 2016 Woodmore Elementary School bus crash, was released from state custody on January 3, 2025, according to the Tennessee Department of Corrections .
Walker was convicted of six counts of criminally negligent homicide and multiple counts of reckless aggravated assault after the bus he was driving crashed on Talley Road, killing six children and injuring more than 20 others.
