NEW YORK — Pete Alonso can now officially stake his claim as the top power hitter during his time in a Mets uniform.
The Mets first baseman grabbed a sole possession of the Mets' home run record with his 253rd long ball of his career off Braves ' Spencer Strider on Tuesday night at Citi Field.
The record-setting blast was a 112.8 mph line drive on the first pitch of his second at-bat against Strider, which narrowly cleared the right-center field wall into the Braves' bullpen. Alonso let out a smile as he rounded third base and was met on the infield warning track as his teammates poured out of the dugout.
The Mets first baseman blew a kiss to the home crowd before embracing each of his teammates. Then he jumped onto the bench near the dugout railing for a curtain call.
