A man drowned Sunday evening in the Molalla River near Canby Community Park, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Enrique Hernandez-Hernandez, 24, of Salem, went under while swimming. After he had been underwater for several minutes, other swimmers brought him to the surface and took him to the south bank of the river.

Emergency crews tried but failed to revive him, the sheriff’s office said.

Even experienced swimmers should consider wearing life jackets in Oregon rivers and lakes, as water temperatures are much colder than the air and cold water can increase the risk of drowning , experts advise.
