SIOUX CITY -- A increase of at least 5% supplemental state aid is at the top of the legislative priorities set by the Sioux City school board for 2025-26.

Each year, the Sioux City Community School District's school board sets its legislative priorities, a list of priorities they want to advocate for the legislature to focus on.

On Monday, the school board unanimously approved four priorities. The first priority is increasing the supplemental state aid (SSA). The SSA is funding provided to school districts on a per-pupil basis.

Over the past few years, school board members have asked the state to give a larger SSA percentage, due to increasing costs throughout the nation. The state this year set the SSA at 2%.
