A Thunder Bay man charged with second-degree murder in connection to the 2024 death of 20-year-old Tyler Blouin has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled to begin last week for 23-year-old Brady Nugent on the charge of second-degree murder. The second-degree murder charge was withdrawn and Nugent instead pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter.

The charge relates to an incident in the early morning hours of May 5, 2024. Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service responded to the Camelot Street and St. Paul Street area just after 2:30 a.m. An injured male was located at the scene and transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

The man, later identified as Blouin, succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
