COLUMBUS, Ohio — On Aug. 29, 2024, the hockey world was shocked when Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed by an alleged drunk driver while bicycling along a rural road in New Jersey the day before their sister’s wedding.

Johnny, one of the best players in the National Hockey League at the time, was heading into his third season with the Columbus Blue Jackets . Matthew played professionally for four seasons in the AHL and ECHL after four years at Boston College.

In an episode that will air Wednesday, the widows of the Gaudreau brothers joined ABC’s “Good Morning America” nearly a year after the tragedy and spoke about the heartbreak they both have had.
