SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Beer, wine and liquor are getting mixed into a dispute at the California State Capitol between grocers and labor groups over self-checkout stations.

The development comes as United Food and Commercial Workers and some Democratic state lawmakers push another bill to prohibit the kiosks if retailers and grocery stores don't meet specific workplace requirements, including staffing, signage and item limits.

The bill, SB 442, is near the finish line at the State Capitol and waiting for its final hearing in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
