TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Public school is free for families, but it can cost teachers a lot.
According to the Association of American Educators , teachers in the United States spend more than $600 each year on classroom supplies.
When teachers do use school budgets, the process can be long and complicated, and administrators sometimes order the wrong materials.
That’s why City High in downtown Tucson is pioneering a new debit card program to give teachers more control over their budgets.
“The teachers can see exactly how much money they’ve spent and how much they have left,” said City High Principal Jessica Melrose.
The new program is offered by RAMP , a financial services company.
