A new resource center for unhoused residents is expected to open in the Portland neighborhood this fall, allowing advocacy groups and organizations to better reach Louisville’s growing homeless population .
Louisville Outreach for the Unsheltered , a nonprofit that provides resources and case management for those experiencing homelessness, is planning to open the center at 1801 Portland Ave. The organization currently operates at The Table , a pay-what-you-can restaurant across the street that serves many members of the unhoused community.
LOU founder David Smilie said the goal of the new center will be to meet people where they are, bringing services that are often centered in downtown Louisville into the West End.
“For all the mobile outreaches that exist and the amazing work tha
