A state grand jury has voted not to file criminal charges against a state trooper in a crash that resulted in the death of a motorcycle driver.

The collision, which happened on April 9 of last year, involved Trooper Anthony Fernandes and resulted in the death of 65-year-old motorcyclist Frank Lando, Jr., of Toms River, the state Attorney General’s Office said. Jury deliberations concluded on Monday.

Fernandes was on-duty and driving west on Route 70 in Southampton when he noticed a speeding car traveling in the opposite direction. After the vehicle passed, he did a U-turn in his patrol car in an effort to pull over the speeder, authorities said.
