COLLEGE PARK — Malik Washington, Justyn Martin and Khristian Martin said all the right things when asked about their competition to open the season as Maryland’s starting quarterback on Aug. 30 against Florida Atlantic.

But when asked to gauge his personal confidence level that he would emerge as the starter, Washington responded with the kind of conviction that made him one of the top prospects in the country.
