GILFORD — 50 Shades of Blue — named in an affectionate nod to the Lake Winnipesaukee Alliance mission — brought together 150 people Saturday night, and raised over $100,000 for conservation, during this year’s Party with a Purpose on Governor’s Island.

“The lake isn’t just beautiful, it’s part of our lives, it’s part of our memories and it’s part of our community identity,” Pat Tarpey, president of LWA, said. “This lake, this treasure, it is under threat. The warning signs are showing, as you all know from last summer. We’re seeing an increase in cyanobacteria blooms, which threaten water quality, threatens public health and threatens the experiences that we all cherish.”

Tarpey said LWA is the only nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the protection of Winnipesaukee.
