The former executive director of the North Bergen Housing Authority is accused of using a city vendor to complete work at his private home and paying for it using a housing authority account, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Gerald Sanzari, 63, of River Edge is charged with two counts of third-degree theft by unlawful taking.

Between January 2022 and June 2024, Sanzari used city vendors to complete contract work at his private home and then paid for it using an account that belonged to North Bergen Renaissance Urban Renewal, which is a component of the North Bergen Housing Authority, officials said.

He is accused of paying the vendors over $20,000, officials said.
