After a brief review of a new ICE migrant detention facility in El Paso on Monday, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn described the operation as the largest in the country, and a holding center for undocumented people “who have exhausted all of their legal remedies.”

“It is important for people to understand, we’re not talking about gardeners, housekeepers or people like that,” Cornyn said.

Camp East Montana, the new U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement migrant processing and detention facility on Fort Bliss, will house about 1,000 people by the end of the month, with a planned capacity of 5,000.
