NEW YORK — Move over, Darryl Strawberry. There’s a new home run king in Queens, and his name is Pete Alonso .

On Tuesday, Alonso etched his name in the Mets ’ record books with a single swing. His third inning home run, No. 253 in his career, surpasses Strawberry’s all-time franchise home run record (252).

In the middle of a seven-game losing streak, Alonso extended the Mets’ lead to 5-1 in the third inning, launching a two-run home run off Atlanta Braves ace Spencer Strider into the visitors’ bullpen at Citi Field.

The fans in attendance erupted as the 387-footer cleared the fence. Alonso celebrated as he rounded the bases and was met by teammates Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil at home plate.
